Assignment You will follow the steps of metal work from concept to finished product: 1.Draw several designs on paper 2.Choose best design and draw to scale to make a pattern 3.Use a jeweler’s saw and bench clip to cut metals to desired shapes 4.Sand edges to make smooth 5.On soldering block or tripod place solder between layers of metal and heat until solder bonds 6.Pickle, dry and sand/polish piece 7.Finish for presentation (put on chain, leather cord, etc.)

Grading (100pts.) You will be graded on the following: 1.Sketches are well considered 2.Pattern is made 3.Design incorporates 2 different metals 4.Solder holds and piece isn’t burned 5.Edges of piece are sanded smooth so it is comfortable to wear 6.Piece is polished

Last Thing - SAFETY This project involves saws, chemicals and fire. You will use a saw to cut metal so you must be aware of where your fingers are at all times! You will be using a propane torch during the soldering process and pickling chemicals. You should wear eye protection during this process, hair MUST be back and out of your way and under NO circumstances can you joke or horse around during this process.
