2 Coca-Cola  1886 -A headache (remedy) sold as a cocaine –based syrup developed by pharmacist, Dr. John Pemberton-placed on sale at Jacob’s Pharmacy for 5 cents a glass and mixed with carbonated water (makes it work faster).  1892-Asa Candler, a business man with great advertising initiatives, bought the company from Dr. Pemberton for $2300. He realized it sold well as a refreshing drink. (Do you think he was related to the person who named “Candler Field”?)  1904-A million gallons were sold  1919-Candler family sold the Coca-Cola company to Atlanta banker, Ernest Woodruff for $25 million  4 years later, Robert Woodruff (the son) becomes President and leads the company for 60 years  Robert’s legacy:  Introduced the cardboard carrier for the purchase of more than one bottle  Introduced the “cooler” that evolves into the vending machine  Made them the 1 st company to sell brand name merchandise  Established a global market to sell Coke products around the world  Was able to help run the city of Atlanta “behind the scenes”  Was a philanthropist (gave/donated money to charitable causes or public projects) http://www.thecoca- colacompany.com/heritage/ourheritage.html
