Mysterious Truth by Maxim Grunin Art of the Day Presentation by Anoodnya Sangam Mysterious Truth by Maxim Grunin Art of the Day Presentation by Anoodnya Sangam
3
Facial expressions show that she is either depressed, and thinking deeply at something. She also seems to be figuring something out, and trying to understand something with her eyes closed.
4
Same woman as on the right, but this is a depiction of her emotions. Open eyes may mean she is looking everywhere for the truth. Paint drips look like tears, and there and hints of blue, showing that she might be depressed and confused (shown by the commotion of colors and paint splatters)
5
The woman’s hand, along with what she is writing, is covered by black and white splotches of paint. Represents how the mysterious truth (her writing) is being covered by confusion and lies (paint splotches). Grunin is trying to say that the truth is usually hidden, and one must think deeply to understand the meaning.
6
The only light colors in this painting (besides the colored splotches) are the white of the woman’s dress and the paper. On the outside, the woman and the paper are blank (symbolized by the color white), but her mind is filled with color, craziness, and exploding with thoughts (commotion and color of the rest of the painting). Grunin is trying to convey that the truth is held inside all the commotion and craziness and makes it mysterious.
7
This painting has no source of light. The only possible brightness could be in the blank paper and the woman’s dress. That means that there is no bright side of the truth, as the dark colors show, the truth is mostly dark, and sad.
8
Most of the things in this picture are two dimensional, and aren’t shown at an angle, with the exception of the pyramids. This may mean that the truth is straightforward, and all the lies surrounding the truth is making it look confusing. Angles also sometimes bias perspectives, and the truth cannot be biased.
9
This painting has a couple big images, and a couple other smaller ones. The biggest one of these is the woman on the right. Most of the attention is drawn to her. However nothing much can be understood by just her.
10
This is another one of the big parts in this work of art, and not much can be understood from just these two big parts. That shows that one cannot just look at the big things and find the truth. They must look deeper and closer, and then they will understand it fully.
11
On the bottom left of the painting, there is a woman’s face. Right above it there is a crooked, bare tree, and a splatter or black and grey paint. The placement of the tree and the black paint make it seem as though they were the woman’s thoughts, and what she is thinking in her mind.
12
Those two thoughts look like they are separated by a jagged line. The left side, being her right, could be the right side of her brain. The right side of a human’s brain is the more creative and crazy side. This could be seen by how the tree isn’t straight like a normal tree, it is bent and crooked, and all the different colors meaning that its different and interesting, like the right side of the brain. The right side, being her left, could mean that is the left side of her brain, which is more black and straightforward. The left side of the human brain is supposed to be more straightforward and logical, and plain. That is shown by how the colors are dull and plain. The word “true” is also painted in this area so it confirms that she is thinking deeply about the truth.
13
This painting has many different settings. The woman on the right is sitting at a table, possibly in her home. But most of the rest of the painting is what is going on in her mind and what her thoughts are. Such as the face on the bottom-left, and the thoughts above the face are also taking place in her mind. This means that the truth isn’t a solid thing, and you can’t find it just by looking, you have to think deeper about into and let it sink into your head.
14
The overall message of Maxim Grunin through his painting, Mysterious Truth, is that the truth cannot be found at first glance. This painting seems to be a confusion of random colors and images the first time it is looked at. After examining the painting for a while, one will notice that there are many small details and that how they all fit together and support the same message. Similar to how the truth, when first looked at, cannot be identified among all the confusion and lies covering it, but after looked into further, the mysterious truth will be uncovered.

Character: On the right side of the painting there is a woman, who looks like she is depressed and deeply thinking about something. She seems to be figuring something out and trying to understand something with her eyes closed. The woman’s hand, along with what she is writing/drawing is covered by splotches of black and white paint. Represents how the mysterious truth (her writing) is being covered by confusion and lies (paint splotches). Grunin is trying to say that the truth is usually hidden, and one must think deeply to understand the meaning. Another painting of the same character is on the right, but this is a depiction of her emotions. Her open eyes may mean she is looking everywhere for the truth. Color: The only light colors in this painting (besides the colored splotches) are the white of the woman’s dress and the paper. On the outside, the woman and the paper are blank, symbolized by the color white, but her mind is filled with color, craziness, and exploding with thoughts which are represented by the commotion and color in the rest of the painting.
