2  The active support of a cause  Involves the art of persuading others to support the same cause  Also involves the careful gathering of facts. The development of excellent communication skills, and the creation of an effective plan and timeline.  Defense attorneys require advocacy

3  The way to influence the lawmaking process by convincing voters to vote the way you want to.  Lobbyists use political contributions, ads, favors, letter writing campaigns, and other technique.  Those who lobby the federal government must file a report every four years listing all the legislators they have contacted.
