Changing Environment's and Endangered Species By Dylan Vaghela 9B
2
5 Endangered Species 1.Tiger 2. Polar Bear 3.Pacific Walrus 4.Magellanic Penguin 5.Leatherback Turtle
3
Tiger New studies indicate that there may be as few as 3,200 tigers (Panthera tigris) left in the wild. Tigers occupy less than seven per cent of their original range, which has decreased by 40 percent over the past ten years.
5
Polar Bear The Arctic’s polar bears is a threatened species for protection by the Endangered Species Act in the US, many polar bear populations will be vulnerable to extinction within the next century if warming trends in the Arctic continue
6
Polar bears Current range
7
Pacific Walrus The Arctic’s Bering and Chukchi Seas are home to the Pacific Walrus. One of the latest victims of climate change. In September of this year, up to 200 dead walruses were spotted on the shore of the Chukchi Sea on Alaska's northwest coast.
9
Magellanic Penguin Once threatened primarily by oil spills, Magellanic penguins, now face a larger threat as fish are displaced by warming ocean currents. Last year hundreds of Magellanic penguins washed up on beaches around Rio de Janeiro
11
Leatherback Turtle The largest marine turtle and one of the largest living reptiles, the leatherback turtle. Particularly in the Pacific where as few as 2,300 adult females now remain, making the Pacific leatherback the world's most endangered marine turtle population.
13
Why Do Animals Become Endangered? Humans are largely responsible when animals become extinct, endangered or threatened. Here are some reasons why animals become endangered: Destruction of Habitat Pollution Hunting and Fishing
14
Diversity definition It means understanding that each individual is unique, and recognizing our individual differences. The dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio- economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies.
15
What is being done to prevent extinction Humans are taking action into preventing endangered species from becoming extinct. There are several different strategies we can take into helping animals from becoming endangered in the first place. Simple procedures we can take can benefit us, and the environment around us.
16
What is a seed bank? A seed bank (also seedbank or seeds bank) stores seeds as a source for planting in case seed reserves elsewhere are destroyed. It is a type of gene bank. The seeds stored may be food crops, or those of rare species to protect biodiversity. The reasons for storing seeds may be varied.
17
Why are seed banks important? Farmers realized their seeds needed protection in order to ensure the next year's harvest. As a result, seed harvesting was one of the most important rituals in ancient farming communities. In Iraq.
