Before he became president George Washington was a soldier. He had a rank of major in the Virginia militia.

On the 25 th of December 1776 Washington and his troops crossed the Delaware river. The harsh winter weather made it difficult to cross. After they reached the other side Washington lead his army to Trenton witch was Continental army’s first major victory.

George Washington was married to Martha Dandridge Custis. Martha had no children with George, but she had two children from her first marriage. Both of their children died. His family had some distinction in England and were granted land by Henry VIII. His father Augustine was a tobacco farmer. Augustines first wife died in 1729. Then in 1931 he remarried to a woman named Mary Ball. George was the oldest of their 6 children.

Washington started school at age 6,but left at 15. He had all of his teeth pulled and wore fake teeth. He lost most of his battles. He is the richest president ever. He had no middle name. He didn’t wear a wig. Every picture was real hair. He was made an honorary citizen of France.
