Circulation: Moving Blood around the Body
7
Cardiac Circulation Right coronary artery has two main branches Supply blood to the inferior and posterior walls of the heart
8
Cardiac Circulation Left coronary artery divides into two arteries Left Anterior Descending Artery (widow maker) Circumflex Artery Supply blood to the anterior, lateral, and posterior walls of the heart
12
Cardiac Circulation Coronary arteries fill when the ventricles are relaxed They close off when the ventricles contract to protect them from the high pressure that is created
13
Cardiac Circulation Both ventricles receive their blood supply from the right and left coronary arteries Each atrium only receives blood from its corresponding artery
14
Cardiac Circulation Both ventricles receive their blood supply from the right and left coronary arteries Each atrium only receives blood from its corresponding artery
16
Cardiac Circulation The most abundant supply of blood goes to the myocardium of the left ventricle (because it does most of the work) The right coronary artery is dominant in about 50% of all hearts
