Warm Up for Blood Vessels  NO DEVICES TODAY, PUT THEM AWAY PLEASE  Complete the conduction pathway worksheet and hold on to it  We will review it after 5-7 minutes  You may use the textbooks  Small text: pg. 377  Larger text. pg. 595

BLOOD VESSELS 4/4/16

Blood Vessels

Structure  tunica intima  innermost layer  tunica media  middle layer  tunica externa  outermost layer

Circulation: Moving Blood around the Body  cardiopulmonary circulation  between heart and lungs  systemic circulation  between heart and body

Circulation: Moving Blood around the Body

Cardiac Circulation  Right coronary artery has two main branches  Supply blood to the inferior and posterior walls of the heart

Cardiac Circulation  Left coronary artery divides into two arteries Left Anterior Descending Artery (widow maker) Circumflex Artery  Supply blood to the anterior, lateral, and posterior walls of the heart

Cardiac Circulation  Coronary arteries fill when the ventricles are relaxed  They close off when the ventricles contract to protect them from the high pressure that is created

Cardiac Circulation  Both ventricles receive their blood supply from the right and left coronary arteries  Each atrium only receives blood from its corresponding artery

Cardiac Circulation  Both ventricles receive their blood supply from the right and left coronary arteries  Each atrium only receives blood from its corresponding artery

Cardiac Circulation  The most abundant supply of blood goes to the myocardium of the left ventricle (because it does most of the work)  The right coronary artery is dominant in about 50% of all hearts
