3 Disability Statistics in Australia 1 in 5 Australians experience long term impairment (3.95m people) 2.6m are under age 65 (equates to 15% of the under 65 population) 86% of people with disability report a core limitation (i.e. mobility communication, restricted in schooling or employment)

4 Not just disability … People using PDAs, web phones, iPhones/iPads People with poor communications infrastructure People with old equipment Older people and casual users People working in restricted access environments People with temporary impairments People coping with environmental distractions

5 WCAG 2.0 Endorsement / Implementation Australian Government endorsed WCAG 2.0 for adoption by agencies as a WhoG ICT Arrangement subject to opt-out. Conformance required at: Level A by 31 December 2012 Level AA by 31 December 2014

6 AGIMO’s Role Develop and oversee a National Transition Strategy for the implementation of WCAG 2.0 Establish Communities of Expertise to collaborate and educate web managers Develop supporting projects to resolve common issues = Mitigation Projects Aim: unified, consistent and cost effective implementation of updated web standard

9 What should you be doing now? Join Community of Expertise; Review your agency input to Phase 1 Survey; Review your internal Web Management practices core to better Accessibility: Publishing processes, CMS, Information management practices Review your web applications

10 What should you be doing now? Develop an NTS roadmap for your agency that addresses Infrastructure – web applications and upgrade; Capability - training and education needs; Procurement – catalogue procurement activities to leverage improved accessibility; Internal education campaigns; Review of publishing workflows, governance arrangements; Review of CMS.
