Metamorphic Rocks

Questions What are metamorphic rocks? What processes are involved in forming metamorphic rocks? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tI344TmxN-I http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e15n7-zq0mA Rocks that have undergone a physical or chemical change Heat and Pressure

There are different types of Metamorphic Rocks Foliated (direct heat and pressure) ∙ Non- Foliated Gneiss Schist SlatePhyllite Marble Quartzite

Identifying Metamorphic Rocks Gneiss is foliated metamorphic rock that has a banded appearance and is made up of granular mineral grains Marble is a non-foliated metamorphic rock that is produced from the metamorphism of limestone Quartzite is a non-foliated metamorphic rock that is produced by the metamorphism of sandstone Schist is metamorphic rock with well developed foliation. It often contains significant amounts of mica which allow the rock to split into thin pieces. Slate is a foliated metamorphic rock that is formed through the metamorphism of shale

Metamorphism can occur in numerous ways
