Cube To cut a solid into cubes of about 1/2 inch or more. Tool: Knife

Dice To cut a solid into cubes of 1/8 to 1/4 inch.

Mince To cut or chop into smallest pieces possible, smaller than diced. Tools: Knife, scissors, press

Slice A thin flat piece cut off of some object Tool: Knife Julienne

Dissolve A small cube of evaporated seasoned meat, poultry, or vegetable stock Fill a liquid measuring cup with water and bring the water to a boil in the microwave. Once the water is boiling, drop in a bullion cube. Let the cube dissolve and stir the cube's contents around in the water. Chop To cut food into small pieces Tools: knife, food chopper

Pare To cut a very thin layer of peel from fruits or vegetables.

Melt The process whereby heat changes something from a solid to a liquid Tool: Double boiler, pan and bowl, skillet, pan

Season Why season? The taste buds can only detect four (4) things: sweet, salty, bitter, and sour the rest of the flavor comes from the nose. The time to season is debatable. Two schools of thought are before and after cooking. I believe before is best because the meat has a chance to absorb the seasoning verses resting on top of the meat.

Dredge To cover or coat food with flour or a similar fine, dry substance.

Sauté: To brown or cook in a small amount of fat also called frying.
Tool: frying/saute pan, wooden spoon

Mix To combine 2 or more ingredients by beating or stirring until evenly distributed Tools: mixing spoon, wire whisk, rotary beater, electric mixer

Steam To cook in a covered container above boiling water.
Tools: Electric steamer, steamer basket and pot with lid, bamboo steamer

Stir To mix ingredients in a circular motion until blended with uniform consistency. Tool: mixing spoon

Blend To combine two or more ingredients thoroughly.
