Budgets Currently going through a budget exercise for 2017 request that we will present to OHEP in early March (4) –Plan will be to present a 10-year vision for Fermilab and HEP and what has to happen in the next few years to execute the vision over the next decade –FY16 PBR looks pretty good – with $22M more than in FY15 for HEP (in projects) –Research funds still being re-purposed for capital line item projects –We have a bi-weekly phone call with Pat Dehmer to go over neutrino progress. It is a priority for her and wants to be kept informed! 2/17/2014All hands5

Modernizing Fermilab Work Environment (Nigel’s Slide) Attracting and retaining top talent is critical to Fermilab’s future –Today’s employers compete with compensation, benefits, and intangibles Fermilab is adopting a modern “flexible work arrangement” policy –Includes features like telecommuting, flexible start/end times, and “9/80” schedules –Most DOE labs already have something like this as well as most high-tech employers Key elements –With approval of supervisor, staff can, on a regular basis, telecommute 1 day/week OR “flex” one day within 2 weeks for exempt (1 week for non-exempt) Key issues –Consistency among different options already available in different parts of the lab –Encouraging staff & supervisors to have these conversations about work schedule We expect increases in morale AND productivity 2/17/20148All hands

Flexible Work Arrangements Computing has been a leader here – we and the lab want to take it to the next level. Goal is to continue to make Fermilab an attractive place to work for our employees and future hires Give people the tools to be more productive 2/17/2014All hands9
10
Initial Role-Out in Computing Telecommuting – we have had a program in place for quite some time and will continue to offer this option Flexible Work hours – Allow people to modify their work hours (start/stop times) “9 80” – for salary employees – can work 8 9-hour days and one 8 hour day in a two-week period. Then get every second Friday off Fine Print –We are all learning how to do this – will start this program in March and modify as needed –Requires Managers approval –Commitment for a quarter at a time 2/17/2014All hands10
