2 INTRODUCTION The United States is filled with national monuments, both natural and man-made. From the Golden Gate Bridge of the California's West Coast to the East Coast's Statue of Liberty, national monuments of interest abound. This presentation is about Top 5 man-made monuments in the US.

4 Mount Rushmore Sculptures of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson,
Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln (left to right) represent the first 130 years of the history of the United States. Established: March 3, 1925 Situated in North Dakota's Black Hills, Mount Rushmore blends natural majesty with man made ingenuity. 

5 Sculpted by Danish-American Gutzon Borglum and his son, Lincoln Borglum.
The monument was carved by 400 workers and cost approximately $1,000,000 to build. Symbolizing the ideals of freedom and democracy, it is a tribute to four presidents and their invaluable contributions to the United States. Mount Rushmore National Memorial represents not only the past, but also a promise for the future. Today, it is one of the most recognized monuments in the US, with around 3 million visitors each year. 

6 The Washington Monument is a 169,3 meters-tall obelisk commemorating George Washington.
The monument, made of marble, granite, and bluestone gneiss, is both the world's tallest stone structure and the world's tallest obelisk. According to the US. National Park Service, the monument was completed December 6, Its original design was by Robert Mills, an architect of the 1840s, but his design was modified significantly when construction resumed. The Lincoln Memorial is an American national monument built to honor the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. It is located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. across from the Washington Monument. The architect was Henry Bacon, the sculptor of the primary statue – Abraham Lincoln, 1920 – was Daniel Chester French, and the painter of the interior murals was Jules Guerin. Dedicated in 1922, it is one of several monuments built to honor an American president.

9 Gateway Arch Commemorating the expedition of Lewis and Clark, the St. Louis Gateway Arch was completed in 1965. The arch features a museum, and visitors can take scenic riverboat rides. 

10 The Gateway Arch, or Gateway to the West, is an arch that is the centerpiece of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial in St. Louis, Missouri. It was built as a monument to the westward expansion of the US. At 192 meters, it is the tallest man-made monument in the United States, Missouri's tallest accessible building, and the largest architectural structure designed as a weighted or flattened catenary arch. The Gateway Arch was designed by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen and German-American structural engineer Hannskarl Bandel in Construction began on February 12, 1963, and ended on October 28, 1965, costing US$13 million at the time (approximately $95,900,000 in 2012). The monument opened to the public on June 10, 1967.

11 Statue of Liberty A gift from the French, the Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island was dedicated in October 1886. Today, it receives millions of visitors from around the world.

12 The Statue of Liberty is a colossal neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, designed by Frédéric Bartholdi and dedicated on October 28, The statue, a gift to the United States from the people of France, is of a robed female figure representing Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom, who bears a torch and a tabula ansata (a tablet evoking the law) upon which is inscribed the date of the American Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776. A broken chain lies at her feet. The statue is an icon of freedom and of the United States: a welcoming signal to immigrants arriving from abroad. Statue of Liberty
