Areas of Trapezoids, Rhombuses, and Kites Chapter 10 Section 2

ObjectiveObjective Students will find the area of a trapezoid, rhombus, or kite.

What is a Trapezoid? A quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides.

Height of a Trapezoid Length of the perpendicular segment between the bases.

Area of a Trapezoid Theorem 10-4 The area of a trapezoid is half the product of the height and the sum of the bases. A = 1/2 h(b 1 + b 2 ) The area of a trapezoid is half the product of the height and the sum of the bases. A = 1/2 h(b 1 + b 2 )

Turn to Page 623... Look at Problems #2 and #3 Try the “Got It” problem for these examples. Look at Problems #2 and #3 Try the “Got It” problem for these examples.

Rhombus and Kite You must know or be able to find the length of the diagonals

Area of a Rhombus or a Kite Theorem 10-5 The area of a rhombus or a kite is half the product of the lengths of its diagonals A = 1/2 d 1 d 2 d = diagonals The area of a rhombus or a kite is half the product of the lengths of its diagonals A = 1/2 d 1 d 2 d = diagonals
