HUBO (HUmanoid + roBOt) Team KAIST won the 2015 DARPA Robotics Challenge with its DRC-Hubo. – won $2M at this competition of disaster relief robots (sponsored by U.S. Department of Defense) The robotics lab was set up in 1985, produced HUBO in 2004. – a bi-pedal robot that walks at 1.2km/h with 41 motors at the joints that enable it to walk and utilize five independently moving fingers Second humanoid robot to be built. – research platforms transferred to Google, MIT, Purdue and many others 10 / 15
