Copyright © 2013 MyGraphicsLab / Pearson Education NONDESTRUCTIVE SCALING Click a layer, and convert it into a Smart Object via the Layers panel menu A copy of the layer imagery is embedded into the file Use Edit > Free Transform to scale the layer (if you scale the layer down, and then enlarge it at a later time, the image quality won’t be diminished, because it’s a Smart Object)

Copyright © 2013 MyGraphicsLab / Pearson Education FADE AN EDGE OF A LAYER Click a layer, and add a layer mask to it Keep the layer mask thumbnail selected Select the Gradient tool On the Options bar, click the Black,White preset in the Gradient Picker and set the Opacity to 100% Drag across the image in the document window, starting with the pointer over the area you want to hide The gradient displays in the layer mask thumbnail The images at right show before and after part of a layer was faded

Copyright © 2013 MyGraphicsLab / Pearson Education CLONE SOURCE PANEL SETTINGS On the Clone Source panel, check Show Overlay and Auto Hide, and lower the Opacity value to about 40% Optional: Check Clipped to confine the overlay to the tool cursor Optional: Change the W and/or H values to scale the cloned imagery
