Exercise #1: Use the Sharpen Tool: Import the chapter 6 files from the S drive to your favorites in the PS bridge. Open 6-1.psd and save it as cyberart in your H drive. Displays the rulers in pixels. Click the sharpen tool on the tools palette. On the brushes list, double click 19, hard round pixels brush. Drag the brush pointer from 20X/20Y to 530X/20Y, to sharpen across the top area of the image. Press and hold shift, click the image in the lower-right corner at 530X/530Y, then release shift. Press and hold shift, click the image in the lower-left corner at 20X/530Y, then release shift. Press and hold shift, click the image in the upper-left corner at 20X/20Y, then release shift.

Exercise #2: Burn an area: Click the Burn Tool on the tools palette. Click the Click to open Brush Preset picker list arrow on the options bar, then scroll to and double-click 27 (27 soft round pixels). Drag the Brush pointer from 20X/25Y to 550X/25Y. Drag the Brush pointer back and forth throughout the upper-right corner from 400X/25Y to 530X/120Y.

Exercise #3: Set fade options and paint an area: Click the Eyedropper tool. Click the image at 50X/490Y. Click the Brush Tool, double click the 19 brush. Click the Toggle the Brushes palette button. Click the Shape Dynamics on the Brushes palette, adjusting your settings as follows: All Jitter Commands = 0%, Control: Fade 200, 25, 100, Minimum Diameter 1%, Minimum Roundness 50%. Click and hold shift, drag the Brush pointer from 25X/25Y to 525X/25Y, then release shift. Use the Brush pointer to click the image at 25X/40Y, press and hold shift, click the image at 25X/520Y, then release shift.

Exercise #4: Patch an area: Click the Patch tool, drag the pointer around the periphery of the glass. Click the Source option button, if it’s not already selected. Drag the selection so that the outline of the left edge of the glass is at approximately 60X/170Y. Click Select, then Deselect. Make the Young girl on the layers palette and display the layer. Click the Move Tool, then press the arrow keys as needed until the right side of the young girl covers the remnants of the glass. Click the Scene layer.

Exercise #5: Create a brush tip: Click the Brush Tool. Click the Brushes button on the vertical dock. Click the list arrow on the right of the palette, then click Clear Brush Controls. Click the Brushes palette list arrow again, then click New Brush Preset. Type Custom Oval Brush Tip to replace the current name, then click OK. Click Brush Tip Shape on the Brushes palette then adjust your settings as follows: Diameter 40 px, Angle 30, Roundness 35%, Hardness 55%, make sure spacing is checked and set at 43%. Click the Brushes button on the vertical dock to close the palette.

Exercise #6: Paint a border: Click the Mode list arrow on the options bar, then click Multiply. Double-click the Opacity text box, then type 75. Click the Toggle the Brushes palette button on the options bar, ten click Shape Dynamics. Click the Control list arrow under the Size Jitter section, then click Fade. Type 400 in the list box to the right of the Control list arrow. Click the Brushes button on the dock to close the palette. Use the Brush pointer to click the image near the upper-right corner at 515X/25Y, press and hold shift, click the image near the lower-right corner at 515X/515Y, then release shift.

Exercise #7: Modify Smudge Settings: Click the Smudge Tool. Click the Click to open the Brush Preset picket list arrow on the options bar, double-click 46 (Spatter 46 pixels). Select the Finger Painting check box on the options bar. Set the mode to Normal, Strength 50%. Exercise #8: Smudge an image: Verify that the Scene layer is active. Drag the Smudge Tool pointer (zigzagging from left to right). From 0X/400Y to 530X/500Y. The effect may differ from time to time.

Exercise #9: Load a brush library: Click the eyedropper tool and click the image at 50X/230Y. Click the Brush Tool, click the Click to open the Brush Preset picker list arrow on the options bar. Click the Brush Preset picker list arrow, then click Load Brushes. Navigate to the Brushes folder, if not already selected, then click Faux Finish Brushes.abr, click Load. Click the Click to open the Brush Preset picker list arrow on the options bar, scroll to the bottom of the list of the brush tips, then double-click 75 (Veining Feather 1) near the bottom of the list. The active brush tip is from the Faux Finish Brushes library.

Exercise #10: Create an airbrush effect: Click the Set to enable airbrush capabilities button on the options bar. Change the settings on the options bar to Mode = Multiply, Opacity = 65%, Flow = 56%. Drag the brush pointer back and forth over the areas of the image containing the sky (from approximately 30X/50Y to 250X/200Y). Hide the rulers and clear the guides. Click the Young girl layer. Click the Add a style layer button (fx) on the Layers palette. Click Bevel and Emboss, then click OK to accept the existing settings.
