We started off the production of our print advert by making sure that the background of our Photoshop document was black so that the entirety of the background was back. We did this by seeing the background to black when we first opened up and set our dimensions of.................. For the page.

We then cut out the book pile image which we had taken for our poster using the magnetic lasso tool. This allowed us to cut out the bits of the image that we wanted and get right into all the corners without unwanted excess image area. We then placed this image onto our black background.

To follow up the cut out of the book pile we also cut out an image of a kindle which we had photographed for our poster, again sing the magnetic lasso tool. We then placed the image onto the book pile, in accordance to our sketch plan of what our poster was going to look like. We decided against the smoke kindle idea as it was a very hard concept to capture and create within Photoshop. We changed the opacity of the kindle a little bit so that it still looked like the fire had created it and it was fading into creation.

We began to cut out and layer each of our fire images. We still used the magnetic lasso tool but we didn’t keep specifically to the edge so that once they were layered onto the document that we could erase parts of each image and shape the flames around the part of the poster where the kindle was located.

We layered up each of the fire images which we cut out from a small selection of the fire images which we chose to use. Once we had layered them, we erased the areas of fire which were unwanted and then placed them correctly. We then changed the opacity of each flame image so that it was translucent over the pile of books and the kindle allowing them to still be seen through the flames.

Once we had added and changed the opacity of the flames we did minor editing and erased minor parts of the flames so that they were correctly shaped and looked more flame-like.

Once we were satisfied with the shape and placing of the flames and the opacity was correct. We formed a blank white box and placed it over the design on the Kindle screen. This was because we wanted to add text onto the kindle and also it was a lot less distracting than the image that was previously on the Kindle.

After we had added the white box onto the Kindle, we then added the text “Chapter One” encased in two lines, one above and one below. This was to ensure that the Kindle wasn’t just blank and at least had a little something on it so that it wasn’t plain and boring.

Once we were happy with the text and the white box on the Kindle we started to work on our documentary title and on the tagline. The text “Moving Foreword:” was in Myriad Pro in size 33pt and the colour black. The tagline and date and time of the programme was again in Myriad Pro and in black lettering but it was in the smaller font size 25pt. Once we had typed in and set the size of the font we spent some time getting it placed in the correct area of the poster. We decided the bottom left of the poster was the best place for it to be.

Obviously as the text was black, it was unreadable on the poster. So to make the text stand out and also to follow conventional ideas of a Channel 4 Poster, we placed white boxes behind the text. This made the text very obvious on the poster and immediately eye catching.

Now we had sorted out the text on the poster we added our programme address onto the poster. This text was in white, again in Myriad Pro and it was in size 12 font.

To finish off our print advert we added the Channel 4 logo and “#MovingForeword” onto the image. The hashtag was to allow the audience to get involved with the programme on Twitter. The hashtag was again written in Myriad Pro in white and this time in size 18pt font. The channel four logo was to ensure that the audience know what channel the programme is being broadcast on.
