FACT Roy Ritzman uses wires thinner then human hair to study how the legs move. Arthropods have many sensitive hairs that help the creatures respond to the change in their environment. OPINION Cockroaches are good at moving around obstacles. Imitating nature has become popular for making robots.

The author’s purpose is to inform us about how nature has been imitated into robot form. I know this because when I read this article I found there were mostly facts.
