1 Winning the War in the South

2 Battle of Yorktown The war moved into the south. Americans were winning even more battles. The battle of Yorktown was the last battle of the American Revolution. The British general Cornwallis trapped himself on the Yorktown peninsula. Americans surrounded him by land, and the French surrounded him by the sea. He and his army surrendered. We Surrender!!

3 Treaty of Paris The war officially ended with the Treaty of Paris, signed in Paris, France. In it, England agreed to recognize that we were our own country, and Spain was given back Florida. Also, our borders were set. The Atlantic Ocean would be our eastern border, the Mississippi would be our western border, and the Great lakes would be our northern border. Americans won because they were fighting on their own land, they had foreign help (France and Spain) and they were passionate about what they were fighting for… Freedom!
