Overall growth of a country requires an appropriate response from a futuristic education system. Education system, its success highly depends on the quality teachers and in turn quality teacher education.

6/22/2016 1:04 AM3 Statements: Secondary Education Commission (1953) observed that a major factor responsible for the educational reconstruction at the secondary stage is teachers’ professional training. The Education Commission (1964-66) “In a world based on science and technology, it is education that determines the level of prosperity, welfare and security of the people and that a sound programme of professional education of teachers is essential for qualitative improvement of education”.

It also includes the experience provided to the learners for better understanding of the profession. It further includes the orientation and guidance courses.

Goods dictionary of education defines Teacher Education as: “All formal and in formal activities and experiences that help to qualify a person to assume the responsibilities as a member of the educational profession or to discharge his responsibilities more effectively”.

Lack of flexible approach to plans and programmes of Teacher Education. Lack of orientation of Teacher Educators. Professional commitment and overall competencies of Teacher Educators wanting to a great extent.

Preparation in competencies and skills which are unnecessary and irrelevant for effective growth of Prospective Teachers. Lack of passion and enthusiasm for the occupation. Adherence to orthodox and outdated methods of imparting training. Lopsided and theoretical evaluation.

Addition of another ‘H’ in the National Basic Education Scheme. Responsibilities to be shouldered by various agencies viz DIET’s,CTE’s,IASE’s etc. Active association of the Teacher Educators with the policy formulation and implementation

6/22/2016 1:04 AM14 Conclusions It becomes evidently clear from the discussion undertaken that the standard of Teacher Education is in a fix in India in spite of the increasing importance of the same. There is need of modification in curriculum, encouragement to those involved in the field, continuous orientation and professional commitment to lead Teacher Education to Quality Teacher Education.
