TheCitizenApp Citizens can report the safety and facility issues of their area along with an optional review for that area through TheCitizenApp, both in web and mobile platform. This application is more focused for the developing countries or regions where civil services(amenities) and security cannot be ensured due to bureaucracy and corruption. I. INTRODUCTION II. IDEA IV. USER EXPERIENCE The Citizen App offers its services through 3 major processes: 1. Crowdsourcing 2. Storing Data, analyzing and Displaying Report 3. Sharing the data for future use V. FEATURES & FUNCTIONALITIES VI. TECHNOLOGIES & PLATFORMS  Angular JS – a powerful and neat js framework for designing front-ends of web applications  Node JS – quite straightforward to use; no issues  Mongo DB – previous familiarity, was fun to have a json- oriented db  Express – a powerful middleware that handles most (if not all) requirements for a web application framework (routing, static files, logging, parsing etc)  Mongoose – ensured data in our db matches a pe-defined schema; provided an easy-to-use API for working with the db (save, find, findOne)  Google Map (Open Data Source for area mapping) – provided us with data about locations and coordinates. VII. USERS OF THIS APPLICATION The Mobile App will be used by everyone individually for crowdsourcing. Whereas, the Web Platform will be used by the different types of users to get different analytical reports and overviews about the civil problems:  Mobile App Users Everyone who are facing safety and facility problems  Web Platform Users Individual residents of a locality. Municipal authorities and Law enforcement agencies People who are considering shifting to a new locality Social and Statistical Researchers and NGOs Governments IX. REFERENCES 1.Bott, M.; Gigler, B. S.; Young, G. 2014. The Role of Crowdsourcing for Better Governance in Fragile State Contexts. By International Bank for Reconstruction and Development / The World Bank Theme: Good governance through citizens’ participation.  The Application is focused on ensuring good governance  Users will report threats and problems regarding safety and public facilities  Analytical Report on the given input from people The project is named TheCitizenApp because we believe this is of the citizen, for the citizen and by the citizen. Of the Citizen: TheCitizenApp does not have one particular owner and is open for general use. Every citizen will own it. For the Citizen: TheCitizenApp is made for the citizens, they will use it and they will get the benefit out of it. By the Citizen: TheCitizenApp will be operated only by citizens, without their active participation it will not reap the benefits. The more they will use it, the more it will be effective. Group-2, Open Data & Green IT Code Camp, Spring-2015, Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) ADEKOLA ADEBAYO (0446955), MD ANOWARUL ABEDIN (0446913), RAJESHWARI CHATTERJEE (0447006), SUMEET THOMBRE (0447035)  Use of Open Data: Google Map as its Open Data Source The Application itself as the source of Open Data through an API  Citizen Science: Uses Crowdsourcing for data collection Solely depends on the participation of people  Green IT: Green coding techniques were used as much as possible The Application serves as a platform of “IT for Green” Focuses on increasing people’s comfort Could help increase environmental cleanliness TheCitizenApp can have a positive impact ensuring better transparency of opinions and makes an effort for improving the civil rights. This is a good way/platform to express one’s grievances or report incidents of crimes while at the same time protecting the identity of the user. It also helps feel the strength of everyone’s participation on a particular cause.  Based on the paper published by World Bank [Bott et. al., 2014]  Crowdsourcing /Citizen Science could ensure good governance in developing nations  Crowdsourcing could be effective in developing nations also  Citizens in developing countries often do not find a platform to voice grievances  Application provides platform for voicing grievances anonymously  Inspired by the implementation of “IT for Green” and Open Data This poster aims to provide an overview on the project – TheCitizenApp which was built in the Open Data & Green IT Code Camp, Spring-2015 organized by Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT). People will mainly report on Safety problems or Facility problems. Reporting could be done according to the criteria (mentioned in the figure) at one time. These criteria are selected based on the problems faced by the majority of the people in the developing countries. This application has the following features apart from incident reporting:  Scope for providing additional commenting for better insight  Viewing a detailed and comprehensive view of the status according to the problems divided into city/area  Poll of the Week based on a concurrent problem  Geo-location features which improves usability quotient  Statistical Report based on people’s feedback  An API for usage to retrieve number, area, type and category of reports This application has two main sections : 1. The Mobile App (only for crowd sourcing) 2. The Web Platform (citizens’ input, reporting and sharing) III. MOTIVATION VIII. IN CONTEXT WITH THE CODE CAMP
