1) Sacco and Vanzetti Trial: Court case where two Italian immigrants were charged with treason and executed though the evidence against them was largely fabricated and circumstantial. 2) Mass Production: Production of goods in large numbers through the use of machinery and assembly lines.

3) Installment Buying: Method of purchase in which buyer makes a small down payment and then pays off the rest of the debt in regular monthly payments. 4) 18 th Amendment: Constitutional amendment that banned the manufacture, distribution, and sale of alcohol in the United States. 5) Bootlegger: One who sells illegal alcohol.

6) Buying on Margin: The purchase of stocks by paying a portion and “betting” that the stock will increase and pay for itself. 7) Great Depression: Period lasting from 1929-1945 in which the U.S. economy failed and unemployment soared. 8) Hooverville: Term used to describe makeshift shantytowns set up by homeless people during the Great Depression.
