1. Supplies:  composition notebook  markers and/or colored pencils  3x5 index cards (200 total)  scotch tape  glue stick  Optional: sticky notes

2. Full flashcard: use the entire index card  term or word on front  definition, description, and/or examples on back Horizontal (half) flashcard:  cut index card in half horizontally before using (it will then be folded & open like a book) Vertical (half) flashcard:  cut index card in half vertically  will be used front/back as a “mini” flashcard

3. Front inside cover- TITLE PAGE  Instructions (must include the following):  Title: Medical Terminology Notebook  Student name  Decorate this page with a “medical” theme (you may choose a specific career you are interested in) ▪ use cut outs, stickers, drawings, photos, clip art, etc….

4. TABLE OF CONTENTS  Use 1 st page of notebook (front and back)  Set up columns as shown on example Date Title Page

5. Numbering Pages  Page numbers need to be written at the bottom middle of each page (starting with the first “notes” page: see next slide…do not number table of contents)  After the pages are numbered, students must enter the information on the Table of Contents.  Remember, page numbering will be different for each student! Therefore each Table of Contents should match each individual notebook

6. From your notes, make a horizontal flashcard for each word part (include detailed description/rules for combining/examples…etc):  medical terminology  root word  prefix  suffix  combining vowel  combining form Make a vertical flashcard for each origin:  eponym  modern English  Greek/Latin Don’t Forget:  Number your page(s)  Title your page (Intro to Med Term)  Add info to Table of Contents (title)  All these flashcards should fit on ONE page

7. Instructions  Make a flashcard for each assigned term  You should either use ½ or ¼ index card  Don’t forget to write the definition “upside down”  Align them in 2 vertical rows  Don’t forget to put title and page number (and add to Table of Contents)

8.  Assigned Prefixes page(s) will be constructed in the same format as “Intro to Assigned Terms”  Don’t forget the title, page number, and to add it to the Table of Contents!

9.  Pick 10 prefixes  (the hardest ones for you to remember)  Cut 5 index cards in half so you have 10 cards  Make a flashcard for those 10 prefixes  On front: ▪ Picture of something that reminds you of the term ▪ Write the prefix under the picture  On back: definition  Secure flashcards to page Flashcard example: Retro- Backwards

10. Assigned Suffixes  Follow same format as “Assigned Prefixes” page  Due 1/30/14 Suffix Review  Follow same instructions as “Prefix Review” page  Due 1/31/14

11. After worksheet is graded:  Glue to next open page in notebook  Make sure corrections are done for all wrong answers  DO NOT erase/mark out incorrect answers *Suffix worksheet is due 2/4/14*

12. Assigned Abbreviations  Same format as Assigned Prefix/Suffix pages  Vertical flashcards (1/4 or ½ index card)  Due 2/5/14 Abbreviations Practice  Glue Medical Abbreviations Practice onto page after completion  Due 2/6/14 *Don’t forget page numbers, page title, and adding each to table of contents!

13. Add the following vocabulary and med terms to your notebook (2 columns of vertical flashcards):  Column 1: Assigned terms (12)  Column 2: Body directions vocabulary (15)  Add Body Organization (4) to bottom of page This is homework if not completed in class! due 2/13

14.  Glue your ½ page Body Systems Notes page into next page of notebook  Add page numbers, title, and place info in TOC as previously instructed!

15.  Your unit notes are printed 1/2 page size  Separate (cut) note sheets, then glue each to the pages in your notebook (once notes are completed)  Title, number page, and list pages in Table of Contents (as previously instructed)  DUE: 2/19/14

16.  Attach lab notes to notebook after completed  Make-up: attach vocabulary lab to notebook

17. Draw this pumpkin in your notebook & follow these instructions : follow these instructions : 1.Color the torso of your pumpkin orange 2.Color the superior leaf green/Color the inferior leaf yellow 3.Draw a black triangle on the on the midsagittal plane in the pumpkin 4.Draw circles bilateral and superior to the triangle 5.Draw a moustache inferior to the triangle 6.Draw a transverse plane from circle to circle inferior to the moustache 7.Write your proper heading inferior to pumpkin’s right side in red or purple if all your reproductive organs are contained in your pelvic cavity. (Otherwise write your name in blue or pink)

18. INTEGUMENTARY TERMS  On a page, attached the assigned terms for the integumentary system  2/25/14-2/26/14 INTEGUMENTARY SYSTEM NOTES (2 PAGES)  Use 1-2 pages of your notebook to attach the Integumentary System Notes  2/26/14 (due 2/27/14)

19. Using 1-2 pages:  Define each lesion  try to use a “common” name for each that you already know  Draw a picture or print out clip art for each

22.  Continue the next units per the same instructions as the previous units  Be creative!
