3 RELIEF PRINTING This is printing from a raised surface.
A simple example of relief printing is a rubber stamp pressed into a stamp pad and pressed onto a piece of paper. Relief printing plates are made from flat sheets of material such as wood, lino, polystyrene etc. After drawing a picture on the surface, the artist uses tools to cut away the areas that will not print. A roller is used to spread ink on the block. The block is placed on top of the paper and pressed down to transfer the image. The completed print is a mirror image of the original plate.

STENCIL PRINTING This is printing using a stencil. A stencil is a sheet of paper, fabric, plastic or other material with designs cut, or perforated from it. Ink is forced through the openings onto the surface (paper, fabric etc.) to be printed. Sometimes called silk screening, serigraphy is a type of stencil printing. The Silk Screen is made from a sheet of silk which is tightly stretched across a wooden frame. The Stencil is placed between the frame and the material to be printed. A squeegee (rubber mounted in wooden handle) is used to push the ink through the open areas onto the material or paper below.

15 This is printing uses a Single point of pressure.
MONO PRINTING This is printing uses a Single point of pressure. Mono-printing combines printmaking, drawing and painting techniques. A single image developed on a flat surface with printing ink is transferred to paper by means of hand pressure. One of the simplest approaches is to roll up some ink on a flat surface, place a piece of paper over it gently and then draw on the back of the paper with a hard point. A characteristic fuzzy line is produced on the reverse of the paper. Another way is to roll up the ink on a flat surface and then draw into it with any implement that will make a mark. This is a subtractive method as the ink is being wiped away to establish white areas in the image.
