Cleaning your clothing Machine Washing- Cleaning clothes with water and detergent. Often referred to as washing. Hand Washing - Eash or launder by hand instead of with a machine; "This delicate sweater must be hand washed. Dry Cleaning - Cleaning clothes with chemicals instead of water and detergent. How to Sort Laundry Look for spots and stains. Treat them before washing. Close zippers, hooks, buttons, etc. to prevent snagging. Remove all items from pockets. Tie sashes and belts loosely to prevent tangling. Look for tears, rips, etc. repair before washing. Sort clothes into loads of the correct size for the washer. Colorfast Colorfast means the fabric maintains or keeps its color without fading or bleeding(running) onto other fabrics. Non-colorfast means the colors in the fabric may fade or bleed onto other fabrics when wet. 5 Mrs. Reed's Family and Consumer Sciences
