1 School of Biomedical Engineering, Konkuk University, 322 Danwol-dong, Choonju, Choonbuk, 380-701 Korea Phone: 82-43-840-3764 Fax: 82-43-851-0620 Web: http://english.kku.ac.kr PhD position (or master candidate, research fellow) in Bio-mechatronics The Biomechatronics laboratory of Konkuk University (Choongju campus) in Korea has an immediate opening for a PhD candidate (or master candidate, research fellow). The position will start from March 1 st, 2011. Choongju campus of Konkuk University (http://english.kku.ac.kr/) is located at the Choongju-city about 120 km south from Seoul, Korea.http://english.kku.ac.kr/ The Biomechatronics laboratory in School of Biomedical Engineering focuses on 1)Experimental analyses of fall mechanism in the elderly, such as investigation of postural sway characteristics and muscle reaction timings 2)Quantification of clinical measures (such as bradykinesia) in patients with Parkinson’s disease 3)Development of Rehabilitation therapy devices for frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) patients 4)Development of Rehabilitation therapy devices for stroke patients, such as isokinetic cycling machine with electrical stimulation based on biofeedback 5)Modeling and simulation of muscle reactions to electrical stimulation The PhD candidate (or master candidate, research fellow) will be funded with average 1,000 $/month (= total 12,000$ per year, that is 13,800 Korean Won/year) including taxes. Depending on your professional career, the amount of your grant is adjustable up to 1,200 $/month. The tuition fee of the graduate school would be exempted. Responsibilities: In this position, you will carry out tasks related to 1)Experiment and data analysis (postural sway, muscle reaction timings, EMG, etc.) 2)Modeling and simulation of muscle reactions to electrical stimulation using MATLAB 3)Visual programming and control of external devices using Labview Requirements: To be considered for this position, the successful candidate should possess a Master degree in Biomedical Engineering (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field)- It is preferred to possess basic knowledge in statistics (SPSS), MATLAB, Labview and human movement biomechanics (muscle, kinematics, kinetics). It is requested that you can communicate in English and you have published papers in English.
