What is Pangaea? Amalgamated state of the continental plates
10
Where is the ‘ ring of fire ’ located? Surrounding the Pacific plate
11
Which direction The Pacific plate is slipping to ? To the South

Write short answer of the flowing questions: What does the word disaster suggest for earthquake? What causes earthquakes? What is the story mainly about? What is a fault referred in the story? What is Pangaea? Where is the ‘ring of fire’ located? Which direction the Pacific plate is slipping to ?

200 million years ago all the continents were combined into one giant continent and this giant continent has been named Pangaea. Afterwards the Pangaea was broken into different continental plates. But there are some fault lines and cracks exist today which are constantly moving and causes vibration on the earth. These shakes are called earthquakes. Earthquake is one of the most serious natural disasters. The slip of the two blocks of earth towards one another is the main cause of earthquakes. When the continental plates move in different directions, they grind one another along the boundaries of the continental plates. So, earthquakes most often occur along the boundaries of the continental plates. When two plates get stuck temporarily, pressure builds up against both the plates. Many earthquakes and volcanos occur surrounding the Pacific Plate because it is surrounded by the 'Ring of Fire'. Earthquake happen all the time but we cannot feet them because they are too small.

Answer the following questions? a. What is the main cause of earthquakes? b. Why do earthquakes most often occur along the boundaries of the continental plates? c. Why do many earthquakes and volcanoes occur surrounding the pacific plate? d. How does pressure build up against two plates? e. What is Pangaea?

Check Your Answer 1.The slip of the two blocks of earth towards one another is the main cause of earthquakes. 2.When the continental plates move in different directions, they grind one another along the boundaries of the continental plates. So, earthquakes most often occur along the boundaries of the continental plates. 3.Many earthquakes and volcanos occur surrounding the Pacific Plate because it is surrounded by the 'Ring of Fire'. 4.When two plates get stuck temporarily, pressure builds up against both the plates. 5.200 million years ago all the continents were combined into one giant continent and this giant continent has been named Pangaea.
