“Freak the Mighty” Vocabulary: Chapters 14-19

First Things First Turn to the vocabulary section in your folder. First Things First Make sure everyone in your group has access to the middle of your table. Open your bag, take out all the cards, and make sure you have 36 cards. If not, raise your hand! Are You “Sort” of Ready? Now, sort your cards into 4 columns. Each column should have 9 cards in each. See the example to the right. For example, there should be a column of pics, 9 to be exact. Make sure your columns are neat and laid out to where everyone can see them. Once you sorted your cards, give each column a name. Write this name on a sticky note. Once finished, raise your hand for Mrs. Autry to check you! Now, sort your cards into 4 columns. Each column should have 9 cards in each. See the example to the right. Check it Out! Disclaimer… This week’s vocabulary is obviously being conducted using a new technique. I want to know what you already know!!! Now that your columns have been checked, you are going to pick 1 card from each column and make a quad (4). This quad will include a word, definition, synonym and pic. Did You Hit the “Quad”? Once you think you have all 9 quads correctly matched, raise your hand and Mrs. Autry will come over and check!! Once your quads have been checked and deemed correct, you are going to transfer your information onto your next vocabulary chart. You are going to combine 2 sections this time, so at the top of your chart write Chapters 14-19. Your Task Once you’ve labeled your chart with the chapter numbers, transfer the information onto your chart. You should write down the words, synonyms (put these in the same box with the word…write small but not minute…lol), definitions and sketch a pic. Feel free to copy mine!! Your Second Task Complete the following tasks…on your own…shhh!! On a sheet of notebook paper, put your name, period and date in the top right corner and label the top line….”Freak…” Vocabulary Preview – 14-19. Now, choose 2 of the following questions. Use your chart to help you… 1.Write the Pledge of Allegiance with your non-dominate hand…meaning if you are right handed, write with your left hand and vice-versa. (The pledge is hanging near the flag.) 2.Make a list of 5-10 injustices going on in the world today. 3.Draw the perfect beach accommodations. 4.As a child of age 11-13, make a list of 5 obligations you have. 5.Draw a pendant you would use to hypnotize someone.
