7 History of Teach a Kid to Fish A physician-directed 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization In 2008 Dr. Karla Lester, a community pediatrician, left her practice to create this public health collaborative initiative Board of directors includes key stakeholders from community, including Health Department, School System, County Medical Society, physicians, business leaders, dietitians and policy experts

8 Goals of Teach a Kid to Fish Focus on building relationships with community organizations and leaders Measure baseline data related to local needs and health disparities Work on sustainable projects in areas of healthcare and schools

9 Working Groups Increase community awareness, participation and support of TKF mission Collaborate with other working groups on specific initiatives and work to broaden the net of working group members Work with the TKF Board to prioritize the specific action plans of the working group

10 Working Groups Promote consistent evidence-based prevention messages Advocate for environmental and policy changes to increase opportunities for healthy eating and physical activity
