What is RtI? Response to Intervention (RtI) is the framework schools use to help at-risk students who have not been identified for special education but clearly require additional academic/behavioral support. Three-Tiered Model Tier 1: Universal interventions received by all students in the general education classroom Tier 2: Targeted group interventions tailored to the unique needs of struggling learners (10-15% of student population) Tier 3: Intense interventions for 5-10% of students, may be one-on-one instruction. Summary Under RtI, everybody wins. Students become more engaged because barriers to learning are removed Discipline problems that result from student frustration decline Teachers are more likely to brainstorm and problem-solve with colleagues, feeling less isolated with challenging students Parents become more collaborative partners with educators Under RtI, everybody wins.
