Page 4 Multi-Cultural Committee Momentum Completed the SWE Affinity Groups (AG) Charter AG Group: Contingent of SWE members who share specific aspects of diversity ~ Share knowledge, concerns, and experiences among themselves Mutually support each other Advise and educate the Society on issues affecting the specific group Serve as a resource to SWE & its members regarding the specific group’s interest AG Deliverables: Provide information sharing to the Society regarding their specific AG (e.g. articles on preferred language/behavior or experiences) Serve as a source of advice to SWE leadership on questions regarding that aspect of diversity Multi-Cultural Resources Repository for Affinity Groups & All Things Multi-Cultural ‘Call for Content’ currently underway Scheduled to ‘Go Live’ after National Conference

Page 5 Community College Momentum Given the phenomenal success of pilot programs in FY07 – FY09, we recommend that SWE move forward to the next level of engagement with CCs Establish CC Collegiate CIGs/Sections at selected institutions Utilizing developed infrastructure/requirements, charter at least one community college program in three different SWE regions Collegiate Members Bylaws permit membership of this group – as written Pay Collegiate Member Dues Meet all the requirements for collegiate sections A charter to formalize this task force has been circulated to the BOD for review & approval @ BOD1. Task Force (if approved) shall have direct reportability to the Director of MI Allows for a continued dedicated focus on this area Mitigates the risk of overloading the membership committee – allowing them to focus on other high-priority initiatives in FY12

Page 6 International Membership Team (IMT) Momentum IMT continues to be a strong team in FY12. Approximately 12 Individuals are serving in some type of leadership role within the IMT Introductions w/ our Janet Koster, FY12 Special Director, have been facilitated. IMT Lead working w/ SD to create ideas to reach our goal of 1000 IMs in FY12 Current Concern: Dues in Developing Nations SWE’s discount on dues for members in developing countries does not appear to parallel that of other professional societies. Previously, SWE benchmarked against other large professional engineering societies, and determined dues reductions for countries designated low income by World Bank (50% reduction), lower middle income (25% reduction). – Two Prevalent Models – 50% (low)/25% (lower middle) and 66% (low)/33% (lower middle). Senate Motion (led by IMT Senators) will be brought forth to propose a different rate ~ 66% - 33% to include the suggestion to offer credits, for membership renewals, to any member who would have overpaid dues for this year.

Page 7 Collegiate Interests Committee (CIC): Creating New Momentum The CIC Team has done a fantastic job of capturing and assuring the collegiate interests within SWE, since its inception. And, it is important that this positive Momentum be captured, as we endeavor to effectively morph our Society’s work, & its volunteer structure. Several CIC Leadership calls have been conducted to align on CIC’s direction & transition priorities leading up to its sunset in Dec of 2011. Complete BOD Briefing shall be conducted on the Sept BOD call – outlining: Prioritized items identified for CIC’s Sunset Items necessary to maintain the collegiate interests in the overall plan for the Society’s Work Owners for specific elements necessary due to CIC’s Sunset

Page 8 Director of Membership Initiatives FY12 Goals Four Foci ~ 1.Member Retention & SWE’s Value Proposition to Existing Members Targeting Low-Hanging Fruit – C2C – Member Groups on the Fence 2.Membership Marketing Strategy What groups have we overlooked? Are there non-association partnerships we’ve overlooked that may give us access to a larger audience? Infusing creativity into our membership campaign 3.Developing Leaders Collegiate Involvement on SWE Committees Mentoring/Educating more SWE Members on ‘SWE after the Section Meeting’ Encourage Volunteerism to Grow the Pipeline 4.Work to adapt our volunteer structure to one that supports diverse lifestyles & priorities – promoting inclusiveness in our organization & the retention of members Define ‘What is the lifecycle of the average SWE Member? What’s working ~ what’s not Sync efforts w/ other SWE Groups to create new volunteer models that work for SWE’s Various Members
