1 1 Nov. 3, 2012 THEMIS E/PO partnered with WISE E/PO and Science@Cal on a booth at the San Francisco Bay Area Science Outreach Festival for the public at AT&T Park in San Francisco, CA. (Science@Cal is group at the University of California, Berkeley (UCB) that coordinates showcasing the science done at UCB.) Thousands of people attended. We set up a solar telescope on 2nd base (shown below) in the stadium reaching hundreds of people. The solar telescope was tweeted about. There was a long line all day. People shared their learning about the Sun and magnetic sunspots with others. At the booth, hundreds of families, teachers, and community members interacted with hands-on science activities, heard about THEMIS/ARTEMIS and WISE science, and took resources – some of which were headed into classrooms. Quotes from students: The club… “is hands-on and engaging” “makes me think more in a fun way” I would like to… “work with IBEX and NASA” “teach others about science and how cool it is” Quotes from students: The club… “is hands-on and engaging” “makes me think more in a fun way” I would like to… “work with IBEX and NASA” “teach others about science and how cool it is”

3 3 Touch the Sun, Chabot Space & Science Center’s newest exhibit opened to sun-sational reviews. Literally. Local media correspondents dubbed the interactive, near-live Solar Dynamics Observatory images in the NASA funded exhibit as sun- sational and a must see! Media coverage has ranged from television news stories, to print and online articles and local blog postings. In addition to the central interactive display, visitors may engage in drawing magnetic structures and sunspots on three interactive digital displays, experiment with plasma in a 20-inch plasma globe, and explore the interactions of magnetic fields and materials in a 3-foot Ferrofluid interactive. Visitors may also take in the big view of space weather and the Sun- Earth connection on a wall-sized mural painting, and explore iconic imagery of the Sun from different ancient cultures around the world. Opening celebrations included a VIP Member’s reception and ribbon cutting with about 200 guests and a weekend of hands-on floor activities and demonstrations. The exhibit continues to get media coverage and Chabot Space & Science Center will continue to host interactive programming for visitors.
