Causes of the Black Death Bubonic Plague killed 33 to 50% of Europe’s population from 1347 to 1351 Carried by rats infested with fleas carrying a deadly bacteria, on cargo ships Italian trade ships from the middle east brought the rats to Europe The plague was believed to be a punishment from God Infected people would not show symptoms for weeks. Would flee the city at first signs of plague and carry it to other towns
