Styx Original members: John Panozzo Chuck Panozzo Dennis DeYoung James Young Later – Tommy Shaw for their biggest years Early years were spent in the club scene in Chicago

Styx Had the name Tradewinds for a while Switched to Styx because it was the only name that none of them hated. Power ballad “Lady” was their first song to chart in mid 70’s Breakthrough album was Grand Illusion in 1977

Styx Biggest selling album was Paradise Theater Concept album Very theatrical Went to #1 in the U.S. After that, DeYoung wanted to go in a more showy direction, Shaw wanted to stay with more of a hard rock sound.

Styx Last album together was Kilroy Was Here Very much a rock opera After that tour, Shaw went solo Shaw and DeYoung both had somewhat successful solo careers John Panozzo died in 1996 from health conditions brought on by alcohol abuse Group made several attempts to reunite and reform but most subsequent albums were only modestly successful.

Kansas Two most popular albums were released in the mid- 1970’s Leftoverture Point of Know Return Creative differences and changes in lifestyles split the band up in early 1980’s With different line-ups they released a few more albums but none as popular as their 70’s material. Have continued to tour every year.
