2 Introductions Linda Cabe Smith Department Chair – shared with Wayne Beeson BS Degrees in Microbiology & Medical Technology from OSU M.Ed. From SPU Teaching at OHS since 2001 1 year at OSPI in Science Assessment

3 Washington State Science Learning Standards (WSSLS) Based on NGSS Physical Science, Life Science, Earth Science, Engineering Currently taught through Physical Science & Biology Hope to enhance course offerings over next few years

4 High School Science Requirements Current Requirements: Graduation: 2 courses with at least one lab science Current State law requires passage of Biology EOC or equivalent for class of 2017 and beyond

5 College Admission Requirements College Academic Distribution Requirements: Minimum of 3 courses, one course must be Biology, Chemistry, or Physics and one of these must be an Algebra based course ( please check with colleges for variations)

6 How to meet those requirements All 9th grade students complete Physical Science If incoming student completed HS level Physical Science with HS credit in Middle School, may enroll in 10 grade course options

7 How to meet those requirements After completing Physical Science, students may meet Biology requirement through the following options: Honors Biology Biology Freedom Farmers This is typically completed at the 10 th grade ending with the Biology EOC

8 How to meet those requirements After completing Physical Science and Biology students have many options: Science only: Chemistry or Honors Chemistry AP Biology AP Physics I and AP Physics C Environmental Science or AP Env. Science

9 How to meet those requirements CTE/Science options Materials Science Microbiology/BioTechnology Human Biology Human Anatomy/Sports Medicine Robotics * Power /Automotive Technology *
