The Central Asian Research and Education Network What is CAREN? EC-funded project to establish high-capacity R&E network in Central Asia Beneficiary countries/NRENs: –Kazakhstan – KazRENA –Kyrgyzstan – KRENA –Tajikistan – TARENA –Turkmenistan – TURENA –Uzbekistan - Aims terrestrial fibre connection (34 or 155 Mbps for each CA country) Will serve 500.000 users at over 500 universities and research institutes in the region With direct link to GÉANT, CAREN will provide Central Asia with a gateway to global collaborations in R&E

The Central Asian Research and Education Network Telemedicine There was a video conference organized between CAREN NRENs and Seoul National University hospital “Bundang” in order to develop telemedicine in the region. During the conference video of the life surgery on liver was demonstrated by partners from Seoul. Participants from Ministry of Health, Centre of Cardiology and Therapy and International School of Medicine agreed to establish a working group until next video conference.

The Central Asian Research and Education Network E-libraries “The Library Information Consortium” Association is an NGO where more than 120 libraries of Kyrgyzstan have united the efforts for the joint solution of the major professional problems, and also questions of development and perfection of information support of the country's users. The Central Asian Research and Education Network iCAREN Scientific Portal Development ( www.icaren.org) A scientific portal called iCAREN is being developed to provide tools for scientists which help them in their researches and access to Open Source resources. A domain name has been registered ( www.icaren.org).www.icaren.org

The Central Asian Research and Education Network Support regional collaboration among CA universities and research institutions participating in FP7 and TEMPUS projects Usage of CAREN infrastructure for video conferences and other TEMPUS activities in order to develop regional cooperation of CAREN - TEMPUS project. Projects like “Towards a Central Asian Higher Education Area: Tuning Structures and Building Quality Culture”, “Quality of Engineering Education in Central Asia” include Central Asian countries as a partners.

The Central Asian Research and Education Network CAREN videoconference service support regional collaboration in education and science Hanns Seidel Foundation( Germany) use CAREN video conference service for lessons for students of Master Course on Public Administration in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. The aim of video conference lessons is to share knowledge, experience and strength regional collaboration
