Work Sheet Calibration is included at the end of this presentation

 Clean equipment of all pesticides (safety) ◦ In cleaning, you treat the equipment as have the toxic material you use  Inspections – must be good working order ◦ Free of leaks – lines, tanks, pump, etc ◦ Proper pressure ◦ Agitation working ◦ Screens clean and proper size ◦ Hoses ◦ Nozzles – same type, size, wear

 Before use in the spring or 1 st use  Changing of carriers (water, fertilizer)  Changing of nozzles  Changing of spray volume  Changing of pressure

 43560 square feet in acre  128 ounces/ gal,  Number of nozzles on spray boom  Width of spray coverage (boom width)  Volume of applicator (500 gal tank)  Pressure (psi)  Speed – ( PTO sprayers)

 1 acre or 10 acres  Fill the tank  Spray the area  Measure the number of gallons used ◦ Calibrated ◦ Measure the amount of water added to fill the tank ◦ Divide gallons /by area sprayed

 Overlapping or missing strips will induce treated area data  Time required  Difficultly in measuring volume used  If chemicals are in the tank could be an application problem

 Length x width = square feet  ( 1a =43560sq ft)  60 foot spray boom  43560sq ft/60ft =726 feet  726x60 = 43560 (1 acre)  For.1 of acre  726ft/10 = 72.6 feet x 60ft =.1 a  Mark off 72.6 feet and collect the water from 1 nozzle (3 times)

 23 nozzles on the sprayer  1 nozzle collected 12 ounces of water  12 ounces x 23 nozzles = 276 ounces/.1 of an acre  276 ounces x 10 = 2760 ounces/ per acre  2760ounces/128 ounces per gallon = 21.5 gallons per acre

 500 gallon tank  Applies 21.5 gallons per acre  500/ 21.5 = 23.25 acres (23 acres)

 Product A is used at 1 quart/a  1quart x 23 acres = 23 quarts per tank full  Product B is used at 4ounces/ acre  4 ounces x 23 acres = 92 ounces per tank

 Spray as setup  Ground driven (speed doesn't affect application rate) Change nozzles to a smaller number or reduce pressure to reduce the gallons per acre to 20 gallons per acre with a ground driven sprayer (keep with in recommended ranges for the sprayer and the label)  PTO driven – increase ground speed, or reduce pressure or use a smaller nozzle

 Changing speed from 5mph to 6 mph with 8004ss nozzles at40 psi will drop the application rate from 24 to 19.8gallons per acre

 Broadcast materials Collect the material over a know area and determine the sq ft treated and multiply it by the part of acre collected  Banded materials – oz/ 1000 ft of row. ◦ as weight of these material great vary each material has a calibration tube which you attach to the tubes and just drive the prescribed distance and read the tube

 20 by 20 tarp = 400 sq ft =.0092 acres ◦ Collected 5 lbs on.0092 a to convert divide lbs/ by of acre = 543.5 lbs/ 1 a  20 drill driven 10 ft – collect.25 lbs ◦ 20x 10 = 200sqft or.0046a ◦.25/.0046 = 54.34 pounds per acre

 Jack up the wheels and use math to determine how many turns of wheels to equal the desired distance (sq ft covered) and collect the material in a tray or pans and weight in and then do the calibrations

 Width of the band or area sprayed  3 foot wide beds on six foot spacing  50% of land is being sprayed  Material Application rate per acre does not change

 Product recommendations often base on per 1000 sq ft or per 100 sq ft  Ounces per 1000sq ft or oz per 100sq ft  Applied in gallons per 1000sq ft

 Cubic square feet (LxWxH)  Linear feet gallons or oz per foot  Square feet  Packets  Oz measurements  Foam products  Dust

 Your driving distance for 1 acre is ___________  Your driving distance for.1 acre is _______  Your driving distance for 1/100 of an acre would be________  You ran the test three times and collected from 1 nozzle 18oz, 18.5oz, and 18.3 oz over the.1 acre.  How many gallons are you applying per acre? _________

 How much material do add per tank?______   Using the same size sprayer but with different nozzles.  The application rate of brand C is of 1 oz 1000sq ft, you drive distance is 86 ft, collect 18.25oz, 18.5oz, 18.3oz (3 test runs)  How many gallons does your sprayer apply per 1000sqft? ___  How many oz of Brand C do you need to add to 25 gallons?______

 You drive sprayer A 145.2 ft and collect –  12.5 oz, 13.8, and 14.2 oz. from 3 different nozzles.  You drive sprayer B 145.2 ft and collect –  14 oz, 13.8oz and 14.2 oz from 3 different nozzles  You repeated the test three times and got the same results 

 Gallons/ acre A=   Gallons/acre B=   What do you recommend?   How much of each product do you add to the tank?  Product A  Product B  Product C

 How many feet do need push the spreader to get.1 of 1000sq ft.?   You have marked off a travel distance of 10 ft. The amount of material collected with the following gate Settings –  No 3 =16 oz;  No 5 = 20oz;  No 7 =32 oz applied.  Which is the correct setting to apply 20 pounds per 1000sq ft?
