Registration Register with the DVO (Competent Authority) Beef farmer with an existing Herd Number it must be activated for sheep or if none issued with a Flock-number Sheep designator Flock Register Personalised Dispatch Dockets

Identification All sheep must be tagged before they leave the holding or before 9 months of age First tag should in general remain throughout its life If tags are removed/applied that event should be recorded in the Flock Register

Movement off the farm Dispatch Dockets must be used when sheep are moved off the holding When sheep are moved through a Mart/Meat Plant that movement is recorded on the A.I.M. Farm to Farm - the purchaser must return the D.D. to the D.V.O within 7 days

Movement cont’d Personalised Dispatch dockets which include a Food Chain Information Declaration (FCID) is now required by slaughter plants: were issued to all flockowners. Blank Dispatch Dockets are no longer acceptable.

Record Keeping All events must be recorded in the Flock Register which must be updated regularly Records e.g. Dispatch Dockets must be retained for 3 years

Census Flock-owners are obliged to complete an accurate census and forward it to DAFM by the designated date usually in December Details of the census must be recorded in the Flock Register

EU initiative Applied for enhanced traceability Applies to sheep born after the 1-1-2010 over 12 mts of age Electronic Tagging

Inspections Inspect a minimum of 3% flock- owners covering a minimum of 5% of the sheep population

Inspections All sheep must be penned for inspection-not portion of the flock. Officer has to determine the number of sheep on the holding;

Flock Register Checks Random sample of tag numbers are taken In flocks with 20 or less all sheep are recorded. Flocks >20 sample-based on the size of the flock Officer checks the sample tag numbers are recorded in the Flock Register/Dispatch Dockets/notified to database
