2. Anita Mui, the queen of Hong Kong's pop music, was born on October 10, 1963 in Hong Kong. She was the youngest in a family of four children that included two elder brothers and one elder sister. After her father passed away early in her life, she, her mother and her sister made money for the family by doing street performances while the two boys attended school.

3. Even at the tender age of 4, she gave shows at an amusement park （游乐园）. She and her sister performed Chinese opera （戏曲） and pop songs in every nightclub or restaurant that will hire them. She did everything from the M.C. to the drummer and the singer. Though she wanted to be a lawyer （律师）, she could not have a formal education. Finding it hard to balance school and singing to earn money for the family, she dropped out.

4. In 1982, at the age of 19, she won TVB‘s New Talent Singing Contest （新秀歌曲大赛） with the song “The Windy Season （风的季节） ". From 1985 to 1990, she enjoyed her halcyon days （黄金时期） as a singer. She swept Best Female artist awards （奖项）, sold-out concert series and was the best-selling singer of the era.

5. She held her record- breaking concert, which was 28 consecutive nights. The concert was titled “Ever-changing Anita （百变梅艳芳） ". From then on, "Ever- changing" became another trademark of hers, establishing her status as the pop queen. She released more than 30 albums （专辑）, won over 80 music awards, held over 300 concerts and sold over 10 million albums.

7. In addition to her exceptional （卓越的） music career, she also had a remarkable movie career as a star in over 40 films. Both her singing and acting careers are a success. She won Taiwan’s Golden Horse Best Actress Award in 1987 and The Hong Kong Film Best Actress Award in1989 for her role as a tormented （痛苦的） ghost in the movie “Rouge( 胭脂扣 )”. Later on in 1997,she also won another best supporting actress award with the movie “Eighteen Springs( 半生缘 )”.

8. Anita Mui was actively involved in charitable projects （慈善事业） throughout her career. The Mayor of San Francisco declared April 18,1992 as “Anita Mui Day“( 梅艳芳日 ) to honor her contributions to the society by raising funds （筹措资金） for the Nursing Home （安老院）. In 1993, Anita Mui established “True Heart” Charity Foundation ( 四海一家慈善基金 ). Her foundation continues to donate( 捐款 ) and raise money ( 筹款 ) to help the needy even after her death. In 2003,Anita Mui wrote and published the book “The Heart of the Modern Woman” 《现代女人心》. All proceeds( 收益 ) donated to Children’s Cancer Foundation （儿童抗癌协会）.

9. While she enjoyed a successful professional life( 职业生涯 ), her family life was not as successful. Though she reportedly had several love interests, she never married. In the end, in her last concert— the" Anita Classics Moments Live Concert ”,eight shows held in 2003 at Hong Kong Coliseum( 香港红馆 ), she said she was married to her work.

10. She passed away on December 30,2003,from cervical cancer( 子宫颈癌 ) she had reportedly been battling since 2001.She passed away peacefully and beautifully. Her own last wish was that her fans and reporters could let her go quietly, not to cry and call out （呼喊） her name. Many of her friends were with her in her last hours. Her death unleashed a profound sense of loss and sadness.

11. Anita once said: “ Instant （持续的） shining is not eternity( 不朽 ). Show business is a hard life( 艺人的生涯很艰难 ). My hope is that when people feel bored and look at the stars in the sky, they will think of my name”
