Photo 1 ► The lighting for this photo is an outside view. There is also a bright reflection from the flames on the table. Jerry Uelsmann mostly always does outside photos and turns them into black and white. ► The main subject of this photo is the fire on the table. You can tell because that is the first thing that catches the viewers mind and that is what he wants you to focus on. ► This photo is very striking because it is all in black and white but the fire makes it stand out with a white glow. This picture kind of displays the rule of thirds in the bottom section but not much. ► I really could not tell you what he is trying to say. Most of jerry Uelsmanns work is very abstract so it is hard to say what the meaning of his photos are ► I selected this photo because it is one of my favorite out of all of his work. I like how interesting it is and how there is probably a hidden message behind in but only he knows.

► The type of lighting this photo uses is outside lighting. The light is coming from behind the camera or also facing the object. ► The main subject in this photo is the broken and beat up house growing on roots fro the ground. The windows are broken and the house looks as if it is about to crumble. ► I feel like if this picture was in color it wouldn't be so intense. Since it is in black and white it adds a more disturbing and sad image to the photo. This photo is centered and not off to the sides. ► I think Jerry Uelsmann is trying to talk about a sad or dark place in his life. Maybe a time where everything was going bad for him and he is displaying it through a sad photo. ► I chose this picture because it is another vivid and odd photo. This one displays a message and when a picture tells a story I tend to like it more and think about the possible image it is displaying.

Photo 3 ► The lighting that is used is outdoor. However since this picture is black and white there isn't a distinctive lighting. If there was to be lighting I would feel as if it is coming from the sky and the floating clouds. ► The man subject is the lady floating on top of the clouds. She is completely black which makes her stand out in the white clouds and white house ► The reason this photo is so striking is because the picture is within 2 hands placed together. It makes you think of why he did this and if there is a meaning behind it. There is also rule of thirds in this photo because the lady is in the bottom third. ► I think the photographer might be trying to communicate life after death. I don’t know exactly but that’s what I beliveve he is saying ► I picked this photo because it is one of my favorites. I enjoy pictures that display a message.

Photo 4 ► This photo is artificial lighting. It is very edited as you can tell by most of his photos. You cant get an exact answer for lighting because all of his photos are black and white. ► The main subject of the photo is he little man walking on the map. You can tell because I think he is trying to display an old time in the war. ► This photo displays rule of thirds because the map and little man are on the bottom third of the photo. Also horizon lines because eof the sky and clouds in the background. ► I think the photographer is trying to communicate something about the civil war or any war. It is a man walking over a map in what looks to be a old room. ► I selected this one because it is different then his others. Yes they are all black and white, but must if them are very abstract and this one is more life like.

Photo 5 ► The lighting in this photo would be considered outside. But it is edited and black and white. ► I think that the main subject in this photo is the moon in the background. It creates a white light that reflects onto the boat and the moon kind of sets the image. ► This photo is striking because of the smoke and clouds in the background of the moon. The black and white affect makes the light like cool as it peaks through clouds. There are also horizon lines in this photo. ► I don’t know if there is a story behind this. I may just be a cool image that he thought of making. He is very good at dark room work so it could have been something just for fun. Or a hidden message. ► I selected this photo because I like how the light just comes through the clouds and fog
