2 “Family voice” means that caregivers …  Inform and influence the programs and services that they and other families have access to  Have opportunities and pathways for leadership and peer learning so that …  The early learning system is equitable and responsive  Early learning programs, services and supports are high- quality and useful

4 About 80,000 children are born in WA each year Kids who will be in kindergarten in 2020 are already born (September 2014 - August 2015) About 45% of entering kindergartners are assessed as “ready” in all domains About 2,000 families are enrolled in state-funded home visiting About 11,000 kids are enrolled in ECEAP About 75% of kids under age 5 are in the care of family, friends and neighbors

8 Small-group discussion  What are the types of activities that regions should focus on?  Who would be the existing partners and potential partners for this work?  How do we ensure the activities focus on families furthest from opportunity?  What are the pathways for caregivers to expand their knowledge/awareness and assert leadership at the family, community, regional level?

9 Kellogg funding opportunity  $1.5 million over three years  Grant-making strategy is the centerpiece  Coalitions as grantees and key partners  Racial equity and family voice are the foundation

10 Goals  Support new partnerships and engagement opportunities that meet the needs of families furthest from opportunity  Create pathways for families to take leadership roles in informing programs and policies, locally, regionally and statewide
