1 University of Minnesota AMCP Student Chapter 2012-13 Highlights

2 Student Chapter Highlights 112 members in 2012-13 vs. 78 members in 2011-12 Increased membership by 43.6% AMCP Vice President AMCP Communications Director Creation of two new positions First time in University of Minnesota’s history that local P&T Competition winning team selected to compete in National P&T Competition One of eight teams selected nationally from a pool of 34 local winning teams University represented at National P&T Competition

3 Managed Care Pharmacy Tours Four AMCP student members participated in tour of Medica facilities in Minnetonka, MN Tour occurred on October 26, 2012 Student Tour of Medica 20 students and one resident participated in a three-hour tour/luncheon at Express Scripts facilities in Bloomington, MN Highlights included presentations conducted by ESI leadership, a lunch presentation about effective networking utilizing LinkedIn, and a tour of the ESI offices Tour occurred on January 15, 2013 Student Tour of Express Scripts

4 Managed Care Pharmacy Tours Students participated in a two-hour tour of the managed care division of Target Corporation at their headquarters in Minneapolis, MN 21 students attended event Tour occurred on March 8, 2013 Student tour of managed care division of Target Corporation Students participated in a two-hour tour of Prime Therapeutics facilities in Bloomington, MN 19 students attended event Tour occurred on March 26, 2013 Student tour of Prime Therapeutics

5 LinkedIn Group We wish to use this forum as a delivery platform to educate student pharmacists about managed care pharmacy topics, as well as a means to connect students with local managed care pharmacy practitioners We encourage students and pharmacists alike to post on the message board and post articles related to managed care pharmacy, and topics in leadership. 7 Educational Initiatives To provide our student members with an introduction to pharmacy positions that exist within the managed care pharmacy industry Highlights a local practitioner with a defined role working within the managed care pharmacy industry “AMCP Job of the Week” posted on Chapter website and LinkedIn group page Development of “AMCP Job of the Week” Provides education on managed care pharmacy topics and how they affect other practice areas of pharmacy “Managed Care Topic of the Week” posted on Chapter website and LinkedIn group page Development of “Managed Care Topic of the Week”

8 Publication and Guest Speaker Composed article related to student chapter happenings that was published on the AMCP website, the January AMCP eLink, and the Feb/Mar AMCP News http://amcp.org/InformationForTertiary.aspx?id=15998 AMCP Student Chapter Spotlight Kathy Jonsrud, Consultant at The Burchfield Group, stopped by to discuss her experiences within the pharmacy profession ranging from community practice, numerous leadership positions within the managed care pharmacy industry, and her recent transition to consulting pharmacy Dual-campus event occurred over lunch on November 15, 2012 AMCP speaker at Minnesota Pharmacy Student Alliance lunch meeting

9 AMCP/FMCP P&T Competition Highlights Eight teams completed competition in 2012-13 vs. two teams in 2011-12 Increased participation in P&T Competition by 300% Collaborated with Senior Associate Dean Seifert to increase elective credits granted for participation in P&T Competition from one to two credits Local winner from P&T Competition was one of eight teams selected to participate in National P&T Competition, held in San Diego during the 2013 AMCP Annual Meeting & Expo from April 3-5, 2013

11 AMCP/FMCP P&T Competition Highlights Biostatistics 101 Conducted by Dr. Dan Tomaszewski Dual-campus event occurred over lunch on November 12, 2012 Pharmacoeconomics Boot Camp Conducted by Ahmed Soliman, M.S., Ph. D. candidate Dual-campus event occurred the evening of November 13, 2012 Disease State : Pain Management Conducted by Dr. Virginia Ghafoor Dual-campus event occurred over lunch on November 14, 2012 Development of P&T Competition Lecture Series

12 P&T Competition Mentorship Program Each team was matched with a managed care pharmacy practitioner within the local community Help their team develop a realistic timeline for the P&T Competition Provide guidance to the team but not influence their decision Focus on problem-solving methodology, as compared to providing direct answers for their team Serve as an informational resource for students about AMCP and managed care pharmacy The role of the mentor was to: Get students interested in managed care pharmacy earlier on into their pharmacy education Improve P&T Competition outcomes and hopefully send a local team to the national competition in San Diego Provide an opportunity for students to connect with practitioners within the managed care community Develop lasting relationships between the mentor/mentee(s) We hope the P&T mentor/mentee relationship helped to:

13 Residency Program Exposure Justine Meierhofer, PGY-1 Managed Care Pharmacy Resident at OptumHealth, represented the managed care pharmacy residency programs on the panel Occurred on April 11, 2013 Minnesota Pharmacy Student Alliance Residency Panel All six managed care pharmacy residency programs from Minnesota were in attendance 18 student pharmacists attended event United Healthcare, OptumInsight, OptumHealth, Prime Therapeutics, HealthPartners, Medica Occurred on April 18, 2013 Minnesota Pharmacy Student Alliance Residency Roundtables

14 Chapter Leadership Academy and Future Networking Event Invited to present our initiative, “AMCP Job of the Week,” at Chapter Leadership Academy, an invitational meeting held in conjunction with the 2013 AMCP Annual Meeting & Showcase Presentation occurred on April 5, 2013 in San Diego Presentation at AMCP Chapter Leadership Academy To occur mid-to-late summer 2013 Managed Care Practitioner/Student Networking Event
