Plagiarism Training Plagiarism – What is it? ◦The act of passing someone else’s work off as one’s own or of citing sources improperly (Lever-Duffy, & McDonald, 2011, p. 398). ◦Plagiarism occurs when a writer deliberately uses someone else’s language, ideas, or other original (not common-knowledge) material without acknowledging its source (WPA, 2012, p.1)

Plagiarism Training How can You (the student) Avoid it? ◦Properly cite others’ work – whether it is a direct quote, paraphrase, or summery ◦Use proper writing techniques – proper notes, drafting, proofing and editing the work ◦effectively use your time, don’t waste your time and put off doing the assignment?  When in doubt, cite your sources!!!
