Using IT for Summer School Visiting Student ID from the University of Edinburgh Login with EASE onto MyEd Once logged in with EASE, can access resources throughout the university including LEARN and remote storage Allows access to 24 hour computer labs across the university

Logging in to EASE for the first time Go to ease.ed.ac.uk/register Enter the details from your welcome letter and click to accept the Computing regulations* *you will find a link to the computing regulations on the registration on the registration page. It’s important that your read through and understand them. The Summer School Code of Conduct includes information about what happens if you breach the regulations.

Logging in to EASE for the first time Follow the instructions on the next few pages to create reset secrets and your new password. You should see a confirmation page when you’re all finished.

LEARN access 1 Use the ‘Studies’ drop down menu and navigate to LEARN

LEARN access 1 You can click Launch LEARN or any of the courses on the list to access the LEARN site. You should find a list of the courses you’re attending here.

LEARN access 2 Access the LEARN site directly via www.learn.ed.ac.uk then use your EASE login details to go straight through to your courses.

LEARN access A handy start screen will appear the first time you log in to help you navigate ‘My LEARN’ homepage with a list of your courses as well as alerts and notifications from the University. Use tabs across the top of the page to access different parts of the LEARN platform.

LEARN access Announcements will appear below each course on your My LEARN homepage

Announcements and emails Really important to keep an eye out for announcements for your courses Can change your settings on LEARN so announcements will be sent to your email address as well. Please keep an eye on your emails; important to read messages from us and to reply !

LEARN access Use drop down menu in top right and navigate to settings (usually down the bottom) and hit Personal Information.

LEARN access The General Summer School Information page will look something like this.

LEARN access Marked folders and sections for different kinds of information, for example documents outlining the Code of Conduct and Plagiarism policy.

Wifi and VPN Network available throughout the University of Edinburgh’s campuses – Eduroam Also available at other university campuses as well – Heriot Watt and Napier. Need to register for this – also signs you up to use the University of Edinburgh VPN

VPN/Wifi registration Go to www.vpnreg.ucs.ed.ac.uk/ease/selfreg.cgi and enter a new password. If you are not logged into EASE before you start the registration, you will be prompted to do so. Make sure you tick this box. Once registered, you can log in to Eduroam wifi networks available throughout the campus and on other university campuses as well.

VPN/Remote Storage Every student has their own network storage space called the M drive – Datastore. VPN access allows you to remotely access the University Network. Need to set up VPN on each computer used that isn’t based at the University. Follow the instructions on this site to set up: http://www.ed.ac.uk/information-services/computing/desktop- personal/vpn/vpn-service-using http://www.ed.ac.uk/information-services/computing/desktop- personal/vpn/vpn-service-using When VPN has been set up, can access your personal network storage space through Datastore.
