Civic Pride, volunteering and the future for CVS

Civic pride is about people helping to improve the quality of life for themselves and others - enhancement not maintenance - culture change and self care. Civic pride can apply to any aspect of life and therefore to any of the local partnership priorities. We need to recognise the significant existing contribution of volunteers as well as look for new ways for people to be involved. Training, self improvement and employability should be key components of any initiative.

“Place Changers” A broad initiative to promote and recognise volunteering in its many forms. To help raise the profile and recognition for those who already volunteer. To explore new ways in which local people can be involved in making South Tyneside a better place to live

“Place Changers” The aim is to recognise three distinct groups of volunteers. Those who volunteer as part of existing groups - with recognition for their individual contribution as well the work of the group. Those individuals and groups who wish to participate in one-off ‘Place Changing Events’ which benefit the local community. Those individuals who do not wish to be part of a group but will sign up to a ‘Place Changing Pledge’ to be proactive within the community.

“Place Changers” Individuals and groups supported by online/email communications and website in order to raise their profile and recognise achievements. “Place Changer’ toolkits for groups and individuals. Place Changer awards and recognition programme. Monthly series of articles, profiles and small awards for Place Changing individuals, groups and activities. Annual, high profile awards evening - co-ordinated by CVS - to further recognise individuals and organisations who have improved life locally.
