1 Teacher Guide This lesson is designed to teach kids to ask a critical thinking question that you can’t just put into a search box to solve. To do that, we encourage them with smaller questions that search can help them answer. Make sure that you read the notes for each slide: they not only give you teaching tips but also provide answers and hints so you can help the kids if they are having trouble. 3 The name for this massive South American alluvial plain, Pantanal, comes from the Portuguese word pântano, which translates roughly to “swamp.” And boy, they aren’t kidding. During the rainy season – November to March – as much as 80 percent of the Pantanal is submerged. So visit during the “dry” season, from around April to October, when the lower water levels make visible the vast array of wildlife in the region. In an area roughly ten times the size of the Everglades, there’s a lot to see here. Identify threats and solutions for conservation of the Pantanal wetlands.
