11 Gerunds Because gerunds act as nouns, they can be subjects, complements, objects of a prep. Or appositives. When a gerund acts as a subject, direct object, or predicate nominative, it is places on a pedestal and a step above the main horizon. When the gerund acts as an object, it is placed on a step below the diagram

12 Infinitives can act as nouns, adjectives, or adverbs. When the infinitive acts as a noun, it is put on a pedestal and a pan handle. When an infinitive is used as an adjective or adverb, it is diagramed like a prepositional phrase.
