6
The Present Perfect tense: Structure The present tense of “have” plus the past/ perfect participle (or third form) of the main verb
7
The Present¹ Perfect² tense: Definition It is used to talk about a completed² event, but usually with a focus on the present¹ consequences, rather than on the event itself. ¹ present : because we use the present tense of the auxiliary verb "to have“, and/or because there is a focus/effect on the present ² perfect : "completed" (from Latin "perfectus", a participle of the verb "perficere", which means "to complete")
8
The Present Perfect: An example I have made dinner. Although this gives information about a past (completed) action (make dinner), the focus is on the present consequence of that action (dinner is now ready). Also note that the time of the completed event is not important, so it is not required.
