Kimberly Stone Summer Design Fundamentals 2014 - Mrs. Choi

Hand-Made Sketch Book Objective:Create a functional sketchbook using different materials Reflection: Strengths: I felt that I did well with the weaving/sewing component of this project. Weaknesses: It was hard to work with the glue- it got everywhere! I felt that I was very creative with my sketchbook. My front and back cover are both different, and in the end my sketchbook was functional and neatly put together.

3-D Color Wheel Objective: Create works of art that demonstrate control of various art media, to identify elements of art, and to create works of art using principles of design to solve visual problems. Reflection: Strengths: I feel that I mixed the different colors successfully, and the outer edges are very creative. Weaknesses: Re-outlining the the edges with sharpie was difficult because the markers wouldn’t write very well on the paint.

Drawing Value Scale Objectives: create a drawing that has different types of line, to use elements of art, to demonstrate control of media, and to have a clean piece of art Reflection: Strengths: I feel that I was extra creative, because instead of drawing just one object, I drew a lot of different objects that were related to one another. Weaknesses: Apparently I am not the best at shading, because my drawings could have had more value.

Ceramics Objectives:create a form using clay, produce works of art that demonstrate high levels of creativity using the principles of design, and to know the stages of clay Reflection: Strengths: I created something that nobody ever has before. I did not copy off of a picture to create my sculpture. It is original. Weaknesses: I was having trouble painting it, until I had some help figuring out how to create texture in the fur.

Printmaking Objectives: Show effective use of shape and color, show a variety of color and movement, and show rotations of shapes and patterns found in math Reflection: Strengths: I feel that I made a creative, but simple design that could be put on a fabric. Weaknesses: I had some trouble fully stamping the squares. Sometimes the stamp did not come out all the way. It was tedious work, but the end result was awesome.

Self-Portrait Collage Objectives: Create a colored value using paint, appropriately scale up the image, make a representational portrait that looks like me, have it constructed out of paper, and create and invent new answers to visual problems Reflection: This project was a lot of fun. Strengths: I mixed my colors well, and painted them in the right places, so it looked like a collage. Weaknesses: I struggled with painting my teeth...they didn’t turn out quite right. Also, instead of ripping paper, I painted my collage.

Perspective Objectives: horizon line, vanishing point, diminishing size, converging line, vertical/horizontal/parallel lines, and shading to create a 3-d effect on a 2-d surface. Reflection: Strengths: I came up with a creative way to show perspective- birdhouses! :) Weaknesses: I think I could have done a neater job adding water to the watercolor pencils.

T-Shirt Logo Design Objectives: visually communicate and idea using symbols and colors Process: After you create the design, you scan it, then transfer it backwards onto a special t-shirt paper. Place it onto the shirt, and iron the design fully, so that it doesn’t stick when you pull the paper off. Reflection: I think that I can make shirts for my friends and family in the future…:)

Nerman Museum of Art Objectives: Explore contemporary art and ways to analyze art My impression of the museum was a nice one. I liked the entrance, and the artwork was very interesting. I had a great time seeing the different pieces of art. I especially liked exploring the museum on our own. I would visit the museum again because I was told that they change the artwork out every 3 weeks, so there would be new things to see next time I go there. :)

Art Goals At the beginning of this class, my goal was to learn to do different types of art, and have a better understanding of different art terms. I feel that I have become more creative, and I know a whole lot more about different types of art. I am interested in learning more about clay. The things I learned this summer will help me in future art classes because I will know the things I need to so I can be successful. :)
