A predicate nominative is a word that is in the predicate and that identifies the subject. Example: The author of that story is Anne McCaffrey. Write the sentences below. Circle the predicate nominative and write P.N. above it. 1. George Washington was the first president of the United States. 2. Shannon is a dancer.

2 Grammar: Complements Subject complements always complete the meaning of linking verbs, not action verbs. Common Linking Verbs: appear, become, grow, remain, smell, stay, be, feel, look, seem, sound, taste. A predicate nominative may be a noun or pronoun. Write the sentences below. Circle the predicate nominative and write P.N. above it. 1. Trisha and Many were roommates at camp. 2. Her brother became a professional soccer player.

3 Grammar: Complements A predicate adjective is an adjective in the predicate that describes the subject. Example: The dog is old. A predicate adjective is connected to the subject by a linking verb. Write the sentences below. Circle the predicate adjective and write P.A. above it. 1. Maria looks beautiful in her new dress. 2. The homework is too difficult for me.
